Stiffness determines how precisely the diaphragm follows the electrical signal — a stiffer diaphragm deforms less during high-frequency excursion and returns to rest faster, producing cleaner high-frequency transients and lower harmonic distortion. Lower mass means the diaphragm accelerates and decelerates faster in response to the signal, improving micro-detail retrieval at high frequencies. The aluminum-magnesium alloy's resonant frequency extends well beyond 20kHz, avoiding the audible coloration that PET diaphragms introduce at the top of the audible range where their resonance peaks fall.

The nozzle is the acoustic waveguide that channels sound from the driver to the ear canal — its internal geometry, length, and material all influence the treble frequency response. Brass is denser than the aluminium or plastic nozzles found on most budget IEMs; its higher density and lower internal vibration dampen standing waves that form inside the nozzle at high frequencies. Standing waves create peaks and dips in the treble response — they manifest as harshness or "grain" in the high-frequency reproduction. CNC machining ensures the nozzle's internal dimensions are consistent unit-to-unit, reducing channel-matching variance in treble response between left and right drivers.

MOONDROP's PopAvg-DF (JM-1) target is derived from Head-Related Transfer Function (HRTF) measurements — acoustic data that models how the outer ear, ear canal, and head shape affect the perception of sound arriving from speakers in a room. The acoustic housing is zinc alloy — denser and more rigid than the ABS plastic housings common in budget IEMs. A rigid housing does not flex or vibrate with the driver's output, keeping the acoustic chamber dimensionally stable. Flexing housings introduce micro-vibrations that colour the sound at frequencies corresponding to the housing's resonance. Zinc alloy's higher mass also provides acoustic isolation between the driver and external vibrations from the cable or microphone. The combination of a rigid cavity, brass nozzle, and controlled internal geometry means the driver is operating in a stable acoustic environment — a prerequisite for the tuning curve to be maintained predictably across production units.

The 0.78mm 2-pin connector is the most widely supported detachable cable standard in the IEM market — cables from dozens of manufacturers are available in this standard at every price and quality tier. The stock cable can be replaced with a higher-quality cable, a balanced 2.5mm or 4.4mm termination cable for use with balanced DAC/amps, or a Bluetooth neckband/TWS earhook module for wireless use without a source device. Cable replaceability also means a damaged or worn cable does not require replacing the entire IEM — a practical longevity advantage over hard-wired IEMs in the same price range.
